Winter offers one huge problem for all people that love tomatoes. Vegetables bought in supermarkets are usually tasteless and there are not many that enjoy eating them. They are mostly tasteless, pale and hard. We can only use the term imitations to describe them. Now the good news for everyone is that you can actually grow tomatoes during winter in the comfort of your own home.
There is no real need of owning greenhouses if you want to spend your winter growing indoor tomatoes. There are many different species that you can grow indoors and will taste really good. For instance, Window Sill tomatoes grow perfectly in any six inches pot if the right potting soil is utilized. Remember that fertilizer is also needed together with seed starter mixes and plant stakes. You must also be aware of the fact that tomatoes of the Window Sill variation are smaller than outdoor species. Although size might be smaller the taste more than makes up for that.
If you want to have good tomatoes during winter there is a need to start planting one or 2 plants at an interval of 2 weeks. Seeds have to be properly germinated in a small pot and you have to use starter mix. Plant every seed around one quarter deep in the soil. Always pay attention to never add too much water to your starter mix soil although it does have to be watered constantly.
Potting soil can be added once the germination period is over and this happens in a maximum of ten days. Fertilize regularly and always water when it is needed. Always tap branches from the larger side and the main stem as your plant is blooming. Occasionally you should also turn the plants in order to make sure that sun reaches all sides. When a plant is no longer productive cut it right at the base so that you can save potting soil and make new transplants next year. Tomatoes can even be grown every month of the year indoors if that is what you want.
